We are situated between the town of Thetford and the Market town of Downham Market in Norfolk close to Thetford
Forest in the village of Methwold.
The George is a freehouse and is approximately 200 years old and was originally an old coaching inn. The
building is mostly brick and chalk and has had various names over the years including The George and Dragon
and The George commercial Inn, we are now just The George and the only remaining pub in Methwold.
We are situated directly in front of St George's church which is a Grade I listed building originally built
in the 1200's , destroyed by fire and re-built in the 1400's.
We finished renovating the pub in July 2005 and after 2 years of hard work we are very proud of it.
If you are visiting the area then please come and enjoy our hospitality. If you are looking for somewhere
to stay then there are holiday cottages including The old vicarage which is owned by The Landmark trust and B&B's nearby.
